Mountain Lutheran Church, February News
By Retired Pastor Ginger DuMars

The main Bible verse that unites various Christian denominations & traditions is John 3:16, “For God so LOVED the world that God gave His only Son (Jesus) so that everyone who believes in Him may not perish but have eternal life.”  (NRSV)  God tells us many time in Scripture that we are to “love the Lord your God with all your heart & soul, with all your strength & all your mind; and love your neighbor as yourself!”  What a better world we would live in if everyone followed that supreme commandment!
1 Corinthians 13 is often read at weddings as LOVE to live by in marriage & in all relationships.  It’s also a beautiful description of God’s love for us.  I pray that we all can increase our expressions & actions of love starting this month so that we are more patient & kind, not envious or boastful, not arrogant or rude.  I pray our expressions of love will not rejoice in wrongdoing, but will rejoice in the truth.  I believe that LOVE bears all things, hopes for the best in everyone & all things, and endures all things.  Love never ends.  So let us live & express our faith, hope & love in increasing ways knowing that the “greatest of these is love.”  (1 Corinthians 13:13)   The greatest of all love is God’s Love for everyone!  Let us follow God’s example & commandments to LOVE & express that Love for all God’s Creation & Creatures – including people & communities!

Singing our praises & joys, laments & concerns to God is a special form of prayer emphasized throughout the Bible.  The book of Psalms includes vital encouragement to sing & pray together as a community & individually.  Psalm 100 is a favorite for many people & says:  “Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth.  Worship the Lord with gladness;  come into God’s presence with singing.  Know that the Lord is God.  It is God who made us and we are God’s people, and the sheep of  His pasture.   Enter God’s gates with thanksgiving and God’s courts with praise.  Give thanks to Him and bless God’s Holy Name.”  (Psalm 100:1-4, NRSV)

We invite everyone lovingly and with open arms to join us as we celebrate our lives in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. After service fellowship includes friendly conversation with church members and visitors.

Mountain Lutheran church is the only liturgical non-Catholic Church in the Groveland/Big Oak Flat area. We are part of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America and we welcome people of ALL faith traditions, orientations, and backgrounds.

Our mission is to spread the Word of God through faith, family, and fellowship. Come worship with us at 4:00PM Sunday afternoons. We celebrate communion most Sundays.
